Meet Our Staff…
Jane is a self-described “nature nerd” who loves to share her enthusiasm for the desert with visitors of all ages. She is a certified desert naturalist and enjoys hiking, biking, and running when not leading fun and informative tours.
She moved to the Coachella Valley after many years in the Pacific Northwest where she worked in the health care field. Jane gets rave reviews from our clients.
A “Certified Interpretive Guide” by the National Association of Interpretation, George was trained by the Friends of the Desert Mountains, the non-profit organization representing the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument.
As a California State Park volunteer at Mt. San Jacinto State Park, located atop the Palm Springs Ariel Tramway, George leads nature walks on the Desert View Trail, and advises guests at the State Park Visitor Center.
As a volunteer for the Bureau of Land Management in Palm Springs, George has participated in pinyon pine, water, and bat studies, which have taken him from Yuma, Arizona, across the Sonoran desert, the Coachella Valley, and all the way to the top of our local mountain peaks. There is much to learn about our deserts.
A former winner of the Baja 1000 and a veteran of many other international off road races Bill was also a national caliber masters mountain bike racer.
He is our lead bike guide. His strengths are his ability to cater to each group, teaching newer riders mountain bike skills and technique, and making sure each client enjoys their outdoor experience. His knowledge of local trails is extensive.
Amy grew up with her family racing off-road motorcycles in and around our surrounding deserts. After winning several #1 plates and championships she graduated from Cal State San Bernardino with a BS in geology.
During the summer months you will find Amy backpacking in the Eastern Sierras with her husband and dogs. Her geographical knowledge of the Coachella Valley and surrounding mountains will keep you entertained for hours.
A former triathlete and regular club rider Terry is our lead bicycle mechanic who maintains our fleet of over 400 bicycles. He is a graduate of the Barnett Bicycle Institute in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Terry is also in charge of our bicycle rentals and will make sure that your bike is working properly and set up for you upon delivery.
Hugh is an Emeritus Specialist at the University of California, Davis. His area of specialty is medical entomology and the ecology of mosquito-borne diseases. He has spent over 20 years in the field in the Coachella Valley hunting mosquitoes throughout the valley and around the Salton Sea. In this pursuit he has studied the habitats associated with mosquito populations and sampled and banded thousands of birds.
His primary pastime is bicycle road racing, which he has participated in for more than 35 years. In addition, he has been a general outdoors-man backpacking, hunting, and fishing in the mountains of California.
“Super Craig” is a 30 year resident of the Coachella Valley and the latest addition to Big Wheel Tours. He’s a hiker, and yes, his knowledge of the local environment and history is extensive. But he likes to have fun with people and makes sure they’ve had a great time…. no canned stuff here!
Craig will fill you in on just about anything you want to know, whether it’s geology of the San Andreas Fault or the best watering holes in town.
Evan founded Big Wheel Tours in the summer of 1996 and began organizing multi-day tours bicycle tours along the eastern seaboard. After moving Big Wheel to the Palm Springs area in 1998, Evan expanded his operations to include bicycle rentals, guided hiking and jeep tours of the greater Palm Springs area.
Evan is a USCF racer who stays in shape by riding with the Desert Bicycle Club. While he doesn’t get out on tour as often as he used to, Evan’s philosophy is to hire the area’s best guides to provide clients with a memorable experience during their stay in the Coachella Valley.
Evan lives in Palm Desert with his wife, Kristen, and children Patrick, Cameron and Holly.
